STORY

  • [Etsuke – Hand painting]
The hand painting, known as etsuke, is a two steps process that involves underglaze painting and overglaze painting. The underglaze painting is done directly onto the bisque ware with a pigment before being glazed. Then a second layer is applied over the glaze, creating durability and also depth within the designs.

    [Peony]
Peony is a traditional pattern of Imari [Nabeshima] ware. The peony was considered an auspicious symbol by a Chinese emperor and both the pattern its meaning was imported to Japan. Even now, a lot of porcelain with this pattern can be seen in Japan.
